The "original sin" of the Democrats was DOING NOTHING to CONTEST the STOLEN ELECTION of 2000, the Senate Democrats cowardly REFUSAL to sign-on to the Black Congressional Caucus' demand for a Congressional Investigation (into massive, systematic, and chronic vote-fraud in the 2000 election) has enabled all the disasters and atrocities that have befallen America since then.
Shortly after the Senate Democrats "green-lighted" the stolen vote count of Florida in December 2000, the Bush-Cheney administration was installed in the White House in January of 2001... and immediately (Karl Rove, Ari Fliescher, Karen Hughes, the complicitly obliging DC press corpse) proceeded to SMEAR the departing Clinton-Gore White House staffers with the so-called "WHITE HOUSE TRASHING 'SCANDAL'".... WITHOUT ONE SINGLE SOLITARY PHOTOGRAPH of evidence!
This modern tar-and-feather media smear-job effectively drove VICE PRESIDENT Al Gore, the UNDISPUTED POPULAR VOTE WINNER from the 2000 presidential election, out of town on a rail, giving George W. Bush the cover he needed to spend the entire summer of 2001 either ON VACATION or at Republican BASH-DEMOCRATS photo-op fundraisers, where, we now know, Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney IGNORED urgent CIA and FBI warnings that Osama bin Laden's Al Qaida terrorists were "DETERMINED TO ATTACK IN AMERICA" in 2001 or 2002, probably by hijacking vulnerable US airliners. (Fundamentalist Islamist terrorists had already attacked the New York World Trade Towers in 1993, two US embassies in Africa in 1998, and the USS Cole in October 2000, while Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney were on the campaign trail and ostensibly surrounded by their "expert" national security advisors - indeed, Mr. Cheney himself had been a former Secretary of Defense.)
Having FAILED, REFUSED, COWERED at fighting the GOOD FIGHT when there was so much less at stake - merely some bad press for "obstructing" Mr. Bush's "More bipartisan" campaign pledge from the 2000 campaign - the COWARDLY DEMOCRATS have CREATED A FRANKENSTEIN NIGHTMARE for America and the world, as the Bush-Cheney administration uses the lives of thousands of US troops - and tens of thousands of Afghan, Iraqi, and other civilians - as pawns in their great game of "DOMINATE and MONOPOLIZE the oil-resources and territory of the Mideast and Central Asia."
Certainly no one in America in the long campaign summer of 2000 heard Mr. Bush or Mr. Cheney declare that their agenda was to build massive US military bases, and deploy entire armies of American troops, to the very borders of Russia and beyond Iran....
But that is exactly where we find ourselves in 2007, as the COWARDLY DEMOCRATS _REFUSE_ to use the FILIBUSTER POWER that the Republican senators use effortlessly every damn day.
(The filibuster power in the Senate COULD by wielded BY THE MAJORITY Democrats to SHUT DOWN Senate business just as surely as the minority Rethuglican Senators use it to obstruct discussion of the Iraq war.)

[note: The debacle that has become the US occupation of Afghanistan (much less oil-rich Iraq) could have been predicted in early 2001, when one of the first things the Cheney-Rumsfeld-Bush administration did was disband the Pentagon's Army Office of Peacekeeping out of hubris and arrogance. (We can hear Rumsfeld and the Bush-Cheney neo-cons saying "the army is for FIGHTING WARS, NOT for 'Keeping the Peace'!") "Peacekeeping" is far more complex than war-fighting, because in war-fighting you simply send your troops - or preferably bombers - to wipe out any enemy points of resistance. "PEACEKEEPING," on the other hand, involves USING THE LEADERSHIP of various warring factions to RESTRAIN THEIR OWN FIGHTERS, and demands constant accurate 'intel', as a single land-mine or IED planted in the night by a single guerrilla fighter can destroy a cease-fire or peace accord that took weeks to build. In addition, the Bush administration is CONTEMPTOUS of "nation-building" even here in America (witness post-Katrina New Orleans), much less in a nation populated by millions of unsaved brown-skins, so in Afghanistan we are witnessing the ENTIRELY PREDICTABLE implosion of the US occupation - with thousands of "Compassionate Conservative" "Christians" in America (the very core of supporters of the Bush-Republican election machine) expressing the fond wish to "nuke" Afghanistan's people back to the stone-age. (Where, except for modern weapons, thousands still live a basic agricultural/semi-nomadic life at the brutal, very edge of survival in the harsh Afghan mountains.)]

JABAR, Afghanistan - A coalition airstrike destroyed a mud-brick home after a rocket attack on a U.S. base, killing nine people from four generations of an Afghan family including a 6-month-old, officials and relatives said Monday — one of the latest in a string of civilian deaths that threaten to undermine the government.
It was the third report in two days of U.S. forces killing civilians. The airstrike took place late Sunday in Kapisa province north of the capital, some 12 hours after U.S. Marines opened fire on civilian cars and pedestrians following a suicide bombing in eastern Nangahar province.

Local people accused the US soldiers of targeting civilians
An incident described by US forces in Afghanistan as a "complex ambush" has left at least eight civilians dead.
The incident occurred on the road from the eastern city of Jalalabad to Pakistan when a suicide bomber targeted a convoy, sparking a fire fight.
US officials initially said 16 people had been killed. They did not explain the lower, revised death toll.
Thousands of local people took to the streets, accusing the Americans of deliberately firing on the civilians.
Separately, Nato said two British soldiers had been killed in fighting in southern Afghanistan.

Bush-Cheney-Rethuglican-AIPAC "surge" meets its inevitable date with reality: As with George Washington's American revolutionary army chased out of New York but not out of the fight, (Washington regrouped from the army's humiliating and debilitating losses in NY, and proceeded to win a vital victory at Trenton by crossing the ice and sleet strewn Delaware River in the middle of Christmas night 1776 and surprising the hung-over Hessian troops early the next morning) the inevitable Insurgent reaction to the US "surge" in Iraq is starting to take place -

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Nine American soldiers died in two separate incidents north of the capital, the U.S. military announced Tuesday, in the deadliest single day for U.S. troops in Iraq in nearly a month.
Six soldiers were killed when a bomb exploded near their vehicles during a combat operation Monday in Salahuddin province, the military said in a statement.
In another incident the same day, three more soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in Diyala province, another statement said.
Monday was "a very traumatic day" for U.S. troops in Iraq, said Lt. Col. Michael Donnelly, a spokesman for U.S. forces in northern Iraq.
