One need look no further to see how the Democrats are so helpless, anemic, and powerless in the face of Republican Party (and especially Bush-Cheney adminsitration) ABUSES OF POWER than at the story of MARY MATALIN, wife of Democratic uber campaign consultant JAMES CARVILLE, SMEARING outspoken Bush-Cheney critic Ambassador Joseph Wilson.
Here in a major WASHINGTON POST report is Mary Matalin calling war critic and whistle-blower Ambassador Joe Wilson "A DEMONSTRATABLE PARTISAN LIAR" for exposing to the world that the "Niger yellowcake uranium for Iraq's [non-existent] WMD program" story that President Bush told the Congress in his January 2003 State of the Union speech (SOTU) was not only patently false, BUT THAT THE PRESIDENT KNEW IT WAS FALSE when he included the chilling, provacative assertion in his SOTU speech to justify his pending invasion of Iraq. (Even as the president and his White House protested that they were diligently searching for a diplomatic solution to avert the war).
THE REASON THE DEMOCRATS are so continually IMPOTENT, INEFFECTUAL, and SUBSERVIENT is because every time they have a game-winning issue to CONFRONT the Republicans on, the Republicans reply by effectively SMEARING those Democrats, activists and whistleblowers who try to make that issue resonate with Ameican voters, by bringing the truth to the American public; whether John Kerry as a "flip-flopper" in the 2004 election, Al Gore as a chronic liar in the 2000 election, or by labelling any patriotic whistleblowers as "treasonous liars" time after time after time, from Sibel Edmonds to Paul O'Neil to Coleen Rowley to Ambassador Joe Wilson, to EIGHT politically PURGED US federal Attorneys, and dozens of others. (The White House, Republican Party, and DC press corpse even smeared Army Chief of Staff General Eric Shinseki as ignorant or incompetent when he insisted in Feb. 2003 that any invasion of Iraq would require 300,000 troops to maintain an orderly occupation, instead of only the 125,000 troops that Secretary of War Don Rumsfeld and Assistant Secretary of War Paul Wolfowitz insisted would be sufficient.)
Mr. James Carville wrote a book "We're Right, They're Wrong" about how Democrats win any rational debate on the issues... but the Republicans CONTINUE TO DOMINATE WASHINGTON POLITICS and the national media discourse, because they have PERFECTED the tactics of SMEAR & FEAR.... by COWERING Democratic leaders and candidates into mushy, formless, and ineffectual 'nice guy' kid-gloves campaign submission every time the Reactionary right-wing Republicans want to ram some atrocious policy or candidate down America's throat.

NOTE how the Republican Propaganda Machine TAKES A FELONY CONVICTION from WITHIN THE WHITE HOUSE, and GOES ON THE ATTACK: "DOUBLE STANDARD!" and "DOCUMENT SMUGGLING!" somehow equating with PERJURY, OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE, and "OUTING" an entire undercover CIA counter-proliferation organization as a means of SMEARING an outspoken war critic, all of which were merely a subset of the broader LIES-to-WAR that the Bush-Cheney adminsitration systematically produced to justify a war of conquest and aggression.
FOR SHAME! Mr. Carville! Your own wife is among the most venomous, shrill, and partisan hacks in ALL OF WASHINGTON and American politics. It is because of "Democrats" like you, and the equally SMEAR-MOB enabling DLC Senate "leaders," that we Americans can NOT GET JUSTICE from our elected representative government in Washington, despite the above serial crimes from within and without the Bush-Cheney administration.

[Note also how the Republican push-back propaganda campaign drove former Clinton National Security Advisor Sandy Berger to review those documents in the first place; the Republican Propaganda Machine effectively SMEARING Mr. Berger as NEGLIGENT... for the Bush-Cheney administration taking 8 long months to DO NOTHING to retaliate against Al Qaida for the OCTOBER 2000 USS Cole bombing, or for not doing ANYTHING to prevent the potential hijacking plot that CIA Director George Tenent PERSONALLY ADVISED Attorney General Ashcroft and Secretary of Defense Donald Rusmfeld about. The fact that then NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR CONDOLEEZA RICE _demanded_ that the CIA give those "Al Qaida desires to attack IN AMERICA" warings directly to the Attorney General and Secretary of Defense indicates that Ms. Rice in all probability communicated her concern to both President Bush and Vice President Cheney as well... 8 long weeks before those CIA warnings became cruel reality on 9-11-2001.
Attorney General Ashcroft cites "FBI TERRORIST THREAT ASSESMENT" as reason to stop flying on public airliners... does NOTHING to extend those warnings or safety precautions to the American flying public or vulnerable airline crews.]
That is, REPUBLICAN PROPAGANDA effectively drove SANDY BERGER to reveiw his National Security documents to resist BEING BLAMED FOR 9-11... and having been effective in driving Berger to view those documents, the Republican SCANDAL MACHINE effectively CREATED ANOTHER Demcoratic SCANDAL - one that they are trying to use as a DISTRACTION from and bargaining-chip for the far larger PERJURY, OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE, and CIA covert-agent outing scandals.
